Psalm 139:1-16 “In times of distress and in times of delight, God knows me; He is present with me; He is sovereign over my life.”
God knows every aspect and detail of my life from conception unto eternity.
1) O LORD, You have searched me and known (me) 2) You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar. 3) You scrutinize my path and my lying down, and are intimately acquainted with all my ways. 4) Even before there is a word on my tongue, behold, O LORD, You know it all.
5) You have enclosed me behind and before, and laid Your hand upon me. 6) (Such) knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is (too) high, I cannot attain to it. Psalm 139:1-6
If God knows every insignificant action I take: sitting, standing, lying down, walking, every thought I think, and every word I will ever speak before I speak it, then He knows every situation I will ever face. He was fully aware of COVID-19 from eternity past. He knows what effect it will have on every individual who was alive at its inception. He knows who will contract it, who will become seriously ill or die, who will recover, and who will never contract it. I will not test God by taking unnecessary risks, but will trust God that if I contract it, it was His sovereign will that I would, and He has a purpose in it for my good.
God is present with me at all times and will never leave me nor forsake me.
7) Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? 8) If I ascend to heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there. 9) If I take the wings of the dawn, if I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, 10) even there Your hand will lead me, and Your right hand will lay hold of me. 11) If I say “Surely the darkness will overwhelm me, and the light around me will be night, 12) Even the darkness is not dark to You, and the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike (to You).
There is no place I can go where He will not be present with me: the deepest cave or ocean floor, highest mountain or outer space, heaven or hell, the furthest point east or west, darkness or light. I am thankful for His promise that He will not leave me nor forsake me. I am comforted that no matter where I am or what I am encountering, I am not alone and He is always with me.
God is sovereign over my existence and life.
13) For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. 14) I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth; 16) Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; and in Your book were all written the days that were ordained (for me), when as yet there was not one of them.
I acknowledge that God brought about my conception, wove me in my mother’s womb, and ordained the number of days I will spend alive on earth in this present body. I will not live one second shorter or one second longer than what He ordained for me. I am thankful for His promise of eternal life in Christ Jesus, which means the sum of my existence is not limited to days in this present body. I must be content with how God wove me and be a good steward of the body He provided for me. I should be grateful for the wonders of the body that God created for humanity.
These truths are not just for me, but for everyone who has believed in the Lord Jesus Christ. Please ponder the truths in these verses in the upcoming days and take comfort in them.
